Board of Directors

  • Phillip Kane, President

Manahuu. I am a member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe. I started my language journey in the hopes to help pass on the knowledge to my children.

Since my first class I have been learning the language continuously for 12 years and teaching for 9 year. Through hosting weekly classes and helping with events I hope to help inspire and pass on our language and cultural knowledge to the next generations.

  • Heather Stone, Treasurer

Manahuu, I have been learning and practicing the Nüümü language since 2013 after my daughter, a Bishop Paiute Tribal member, was born. I started learning to make sure the language was a part of my daughter’s life.

I want to help her and the whole community keep language that belongs to his place alive and used by the community.

  • Alexeya Williams, Secretary

My name is Alexeya Williams, and I was born and raised in Bishop, California. I am a member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe and an active member of my community. I joined the Nüümü Language Revitalization Project because I want to help revitalize our Nüümu language and ensure it is passed on to future generations.

I believe preserving out language is critical to preserving who we are as people. Our language connects us to our culture, our history, an our identity and it is important that we pass it on to our children.
