Nüümü Language Revitalization Project Inc.

Nüümü Language Revitalization Project is dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and promotion of the Nüümü language, a critical part of the cultural identity and heritage of the indigenous peoples of Owens Valley. As the number of fluent Nüümü speakers dwindles, our program seeks to reverse the tide of language loss through targeted efforts that foster language learning, cultural connection, and community engagement. Our approach is built on the belief that language is a living, evolving entity, deeply tied to the values, traditions, and worldview of the people who speak it. By creating new teachers and fluent speakers we can create a new generation of language stewards and strengthen the communities connections to its ancestral roots while ensuring that the Nüümü language remains a vibrant part of the cultural landscape for years to come.

With the commitment of our community, our language will ensure our health, wellness, and prosperity.
